Beauties and the Judge

Kathleen Fisher
Open

I bet you've never seen a beauty contest judge looking like this before! The Jack Daniels t-shirt, reflective glasses and surrounding skimpy babes make the nature of this competition obvious — that's right, it's at a car festival.

I've only just started scanning my negatives from Summernats 2005, where I gratefully accepted a media pass into the beauty pageant pit. Naturally, the winner was blonde with big boobs, but she was surprisingly curvaceous everywhere else too. The judge's outfit may look like he's swallowed a rainbow, but he was all for beauty over a size 14. That makes him the real winner in my book.

Bus Boys

Kerry Baylor
Portrait

I had trouble getting Jesse to pose for me. He doesn't like having his photo taken. This was taken on the bus and I told him he wasn't in the photo.

Jesse

Portrait

I have just had a discussion about showing the essence of someone in a portrait. This is the essence of Jesse ... reticent, avoiding the problem etc.

Concrete Silence

Miguel Gallagher
Silence

This image is in the stairwells of Parliament House where I work. They are very quiet most of the time but once you get in there and start walking around that quickly changes with the echos. You try and imagine what they have heard but only get a concrete silence in response.

Brie Wasteland

Miguel Gallagher
Ephemeral, Waste

I bought this Brie to be consumed with wine and pate on a rug at Tropfest. I didn't get very far as it was a bit bolder than expected and not as appetising as most. Anyway after getting home I forgot to remove it from the bag on the kitchen bench. Now it is wasted and the only way to get any value out of it is to take a photo and post it for all to see what not to do. It almost looks like wastelands of cheese.

Retro Girl and ... Um, Politicians

Miguel Gallagher
No Photo

This is a T-shirt design I made from an old photo I had of a friend of mine and some photoshop drawing. She is a bit of a retro girl so I gave it a 70s/80s feel. The other photo is video frame capture from old footage from The House of Reps with some fun vectorizing.

Red, White, Blue and Proud

Miguel Gallagher
Red, White and Blue

I went and did some photos for the Southcare helicopter people and I saw what was a perfect shot for my Red White and Blue. Now I like it even more as I am feeling very proud to be an Australian at the moment.

Romantically Hooked

Hooked

This is a photo I took in my living room with lovely dappled light streaming in behind Mel.

Passing Moment

Ephemeral

Walking on a remote Tasmanian Beach I came across a woman examining the fashion potential of the marine flora. She was kind enough to give me this pose.

Southern Ocean

Robert Burne
Lost

On April 15th 2003 Hamish Saunders was studying the bird-life of Pedra Branca, an isolated rock south of Tasmania, when a freak wave swept him into the Southern Ocean. His epitaph reads "My Soul Is With The Sea". The solitary Albatross is its companion.

Wreckage

Robert Burne
Wrecked

This piece of yacht was washed up on the shore of the Southern Ocean — we can only speculate as to the fate of the original vessel.

This is one of my son's mates. Just watching someone play Xbox is enough to get lost in the game.

Wilted

Ephemeral

Roses have been used as the symbol of love, passion, friendship, mystery & other aspects of life. They are also delicate, beautiful, thorny and very short-lived. A perfert allegory for life itself.

Let's Get Lost

Lost

We enjoy taking walks in the evening. At some point during every walk, we joke about being lost. I made this picture on our most recent walk, when we were lost.
