Trees

This is taken with a "broken "digital camera. I don't know how long the camera will last, the results a very random, so I will make the most of it before I give it a decent burial.

Ephemeral Night Lights

Susan Stayer
Ephemeral

I saw this on the way home from a party on a rainy night. I passed it so quickly I didn't know what I had photographed until I saw the image on the screen.

I am making a very post modern contribution for no photo ... do you like it?

Hugo is one of my regular photo subjects, but on this day he was relaxing by the pool and didn't want to be photographed.

No Mobiles

Having dinner at the Iori Japanese restaurant, I noticed this sign on the wall. My Japanese friend translated it for me — apparently it says "No Mobile Phones!". So I took this with the 1.3 megapixel camera on my new mobile phone!

Scanned and Processed Rice Sack

Lorna Sim
No Photo

This was probably one of the hardest themes to crack, but in the end, I decided to scanned a rice gunny sack with my scanner, then turned it into a black and white image before filtering it with an artistic ink outlines with CS3 to make it less photo-like.

I accidently took this image while I was shooting from the bus. I went to erase it but decided, although it wasn't a photo, I liked it.

Latest Fashion Colours

Lorna Sim
Red, White and Blue

I walked into the Country Road store in sydney, with my camera strap hanging off my neck and the camera at waist-level, lens wide open, one finger casually placed over the shutter button, ready to shoot anything that was red, white and blue. These are what I managed to come up with, but I didn't end up buying any of them.

Tested Patriotism

Lorna Sim
Red, White and Blue

I came across this wall along one of the streets of Sydney, plastered with torned posters, reflecting someone trying to rid it of all the bills posted there. Apparently, the person who did the stripping must have felt a pang of disloyalty, which prevented her/him from tearing off that little corner showing the Australian flag. Just as well I had my camera eyes on full alert for anything red, white and blue throughout my Sydney trip, otherwise I'm sure I'd have missed this little act of patriotism.

Long-Awaited Silence

Lorna Sim
Silence

I was staying at my friends' recently bought hotel (Tidal Waters Resort) in St Helen's, Tasmania during the christmas break. It was a first-time, first-hand or hands-on experience for me and my partner when we were there. Everyday, being a hotelier virtually means starting your daily work from 6am till past midnight, which may be considered early enough. And if you're lucky enough, you may get a couple of hours' rest in the afternoon. These photos were shot around 1am, when the last wine glass and last piece of cutlery had been dried and polished and tables set for the next 7am buffet breakfast. So virtually this goes on 24/7. It's a back-breaking and bone-weary business plus constant stress dealing with staff shortages and demanding customers and trying to meet the deadlines of endless bills. Only 3 months into this business, my friends were wishing that they're rich enough to run this place without having to deal with any customer, any staff, just them alone to enjoy this beautiful place.

Scratched Sunflower

Kathleen Fisher
No Photo

I was thrilled when the subject of "no photo" dropped into my email inbox— I had just finished a mixed media piece that summed up my vision of this perfectly.

This sunflower image has been worked over with scratching tools and paint, before being cut up and re-arranged. Essentially, it's a photograph that has been disguised and turned into something else.

I've also posted this on my own blog, so check out Scratched Sunflower if you want to know more about my inspiration and technique.

I'm curious to see what everyone else does with this trick subject.

Awake and Silence

Ed Whalan
Silence

Every morning the birds start singing at 4.30am, the volume steadily increases until the sun rises, then once I am well and truly awake there seems to be a moment of silence.

My Retreat

Kerry Baylor
Silence

There is not much chance of silence in my house. T here is always music, laughter and a barking dog!! It is sometimes a joy to retreat to the silence of our bedroom.

Inner Silence

Susan Stayer
Silence

I walked through this park four times this week. I love the way it looks in the light between 9:30 and 10am. Even though there are cicadas and birds making sounds, when I walk through this place the mindless chatter spinning around in my head goes quiet.

Pink and Yellow Pinholes

Found

I found a path that goes behind the Governor General's house. I have lived in Canberra on and off for thirty odd years and had never seen this bridge or the path that led to it. I will need to do a lot more looking into the place I live in and love. They were taken with my new pinhole camera using the 6x12cm neg but then I scanned them in a 6x9 film scanner taking just the centre of the images which works with these ones.

Portrait

Here are some portraits I was thinking of entering in the National Photographic Portrait Prize and may do so next year. I won't be so reserved next time. These portraits were either on the Norita 66 or my D200. Maybe I should enter them in something.

Beer, Shops and Legs

The beer shots pretty well some up my Xmas holiday — the one on the balcony is the view from my mum and dad's balcony and the others I saw on the way up to their place.

Red, White and Blue Flowers

Susan Stayer
Red, White and Blue

These flowers are in our garden, just outside the living room windows. I've been photographing them off and on for the past year and this is the best they've ever looked. They're all blooming at the same time!
