Long-Awaited Silence

Lorna Sim
Silence

I was staying at my friends' recently bought hotel (Tidal Waters Resort) in St Helen's, Tasmania during the christmas break. It was a first-time, first-hand or hands-on experience for me and my partner when we were there. Everyday, being a hotelier virtually means starting your daily work from 6am till past midnight, which may be considered early enough. And if you're lucky enough, you may get a couple of hours' rest in the afternoon. These photos were shot around 1am, when the last wine glass and last piece of cutlery had been dried and polished and tables set for the next 7am buffet breakfast. So virtually this goes on 24/7. It's a back-breaking and bone-weary business plus constant stress dealing with staff shortages and demanding customers and trying to meet the deadlines of endless bills. Only 3 months into this business, my friends were wishing that they're rich enough to run this place without having to deal with any customer, any staff, just them alone to enjoy this beautiful place.

I can't even begin to imagine how hard your friends are working. It certainly looks like heaven for guests!
